Building High Performing Teams

Rise online module - Nando's (2018)

Project background

The Learning and Development (L&D) team at Nando's were putting together a toolkit of micro-learning modules for their Managers in their restaurants.

This was to give them on demand training that would help them perform their roles to the best of their abilities.

As part of this library, one of the modules was Building a High Performing Team, based on Tuckman’s Theory. The theory states that teams must go through a series of stages in order to develop and then feel comfortable enough to all work together, and it is the role of a Manager to guide them through this, by providing different types of support at each of the four phases.

Key goals of the project

The key goals of the project were to:

  • keep the lesson short and concise

  • focus on Tuckman’s Theory

  • provide engaging graphics

  • incorporate activities/games for participants to practice the skills they have learnt

  • design in Articulate Rise

My role

  • I gathered the content and met individual team members to gain insight into Managers thoughts and feelings through this process.

  • I came up with the concept of a 'superhero theme' and carried this throughout the module visually through collector cards and games.

  • Added a board game quiz at the end to provide challenges for managers to work through, to test their skills and what was needed at each stage of the process. If they didn’t pass, their teams didn’t develop, and they were stuck on the level until they retried the questions. Once successful they could then move through the game, developing their team.

  • I developed the assets to go with it in Adobe Illustrator to keep on brand with Nando’s colours and patterns, but also added in a bit of a comic book style as a theme.

  • I then animated and added in the interactivity with Articulate Storyline, adding in sound effects and music and my own voice over, to help bring the scenario to life.

  • This asset was then placed in the overall course, which I then built in Articulate Rise.
