Introduction to Health Economics

Storyline online course - Royal College of Physicians (2016)

Project background

In collaboration with my department (Education at the RCP) and the National Clinical Guideline Centre (NICE), we developed an series of modules based on the Introduction to Health Economics. Health economics is a widely misunderstood area for many medical professionals, even though it affects clinical practice.

I worked closely with a team of health economists over a period of 6 months to develop content and create a 2 hour interactive online course. This course covered:

  • The role of health economic evaluation

  • Different types of evaluation

  • How resources are costed

Throughout the module we created knowledge checkpoints, games and scenarios where learners could manipulate data to give them a better understanding of this topic. We also created a few explainer videos to help learners understand some of the more important and complex theories (See Explainer videos on economic topics).

I built the entire course in Articulate Storyline, developing a bespoke template, menu, buttons and graphics, and animated gifs based on the College’s branding guidelines.
